Death Notice of Barry Townson

Died on Nov 5th 2015, Barry Saunders Townson, of RR#2 Durham, in his 84th year. Our miracle man. Beloved husband of Dianne Townson (formerly McGovern, nee Penhale). Dearest father of Diana Bromelow (Joost) of Bussum, The Netherlands, David (Erica) Townson of Toronto, Rachel Townson (Chris) of Toronto and Michael Townson (Heather) of St. Catharines. Dearly held in the hearts of more than a handful of fantastic grandchildren.
After graduating from the London School of Economics, Barry became an officer in the British Army after which he came to Canada. He joined the Bell Telephone Co. of Canada and later, Bank of Montreal, for a total of 37 years. He was a dedicated combination of proud Canadian, Brit and Welshman. Barry was a superior amateur musician (piano, organ, harpsichord), a devoted lover of classical music and he greatly enjoyed reading and being surrounded by a multitude of beautiful books in his library, all of which he had read. Much gratitude is extended to his superb medical caregivers; Dr. Fred Kaethler, Ann Becks NP and Dr. Susan Batten.

In respect of Barry's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will celebrate his life subsequently. Memorial donations, should you wish, can be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice and may be made by contacting the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham 519-369-3837. "Looking through my bedroom window, out into the moonlight and the unending smoke-coloured snow, I could see the lights in the windows of all the other houses on our hill and hear the music rising from them up the long, steadily falling night. I turned the gas down, I got into bed. I said some words to the close and holy darkness, and then I fell asleep." - from a Child's Christmas in Wales - Dylan Thomas
