Death Notice of Ruth Simms

On Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at the Chartwell Elmira Nursing Home, Margaret Ruth Simms, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully with family around her. Loving wife of the late Gordon Simms. Dear mother of Julie Woodward, Terry (Doramae) Simms, Linda (John) Franklin, Rosemary (Chuck) Clark, Daniel Simms, the late Andrew Simms and the late Darren Simms. Loving sister of Elda Liberty and Edith Hendry. Ruth had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she adored and loved to spend time with at every opportunity. Predeceased by her siblings Irene Rennette, Edaleen Byers, Edna MacWilliams, James Byers, Rodney Byers, Mary Ellen Byers and Sylvia Johnson. Ruth was raised in the Callandar area and had a hard life as a child being raised in the bush without electricity and in a small cabin with her many brothers and sisters. She often talked about how she cut ice on Lake Nipissing with her dad to supply ice to the community. She often had to hunt for small game to help get the family through the winter when her dad was out trapping. To us she was a loving mother who took us blueberry picking and told us stories of the "old days" and cared for us the best she could. We will all miss her terribly and though she can't be with us anymore she will remain in our hearts and in our memories forever.

A graveside service will be held at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St. Catharines on Friday, April 15th at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham (519)369-3837 or www.mccullochwatsonfuneralhome.ca
