Mary Smith

Marion Ina Smith (nee Hines), of Dornoch, passed away at home on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Gordon Smith. Loving mother of Ruthann Smith and her husband Chris Funston, Ellnor and her husband John Van Eck, Elaine and her husband Tim Young, Rosemary Smith, Gayle and her husband Mike Baker, and Dennis and his wife Joanne Hines. Mother-in-law of Gary Hooper. Proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Isabel Tiffin, and sister-in-law of Shirley Hines, and Earl Reid. Predeceased by her daughter Joanne Hooper, her parents Fred and Emma Hines, her brothers Russell, Emerson and Charlie Hines, and her sisters Irene Doherty, Joan Reid, Blanche Hiltz and Dolly Beach.

Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Wednesday, December 6th from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at the Durham Legion, 271 Bruce Street North, Durham on Thursday at 11 a.m., with visitation prior to the service from 10 – 10:45 a.m. Interment at Latona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
