Death Notice of Jim Atkinson

James “Jim” Herbert Atkinson, of Durham, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023 in his 72nd year. Beloved husband of Marg Atkinson (nee MacKay) and the late Heather (nee Gull). Loving father of Melody and her husband Alex Martin, and Kelly Atkinson and his wife Robyn. Cherished Grandpa Jim to Taylor and Brooke. Dear brother of Shirley Atkinson, George Atkinson and his wife Carol, David Atkinson, and Ellen and her husband Ken Russwurm. Brother-in-law of Alice Atkinson, Tracy-Lynn Schaus-Atkinson, Lynn Lerch, Gayle MacKay, Bernice and Nelson Granger, Kathleen Scott, Barb Gull, and Susan and Rob Blackburn. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and his many friends. Predeceased by his father Jack Atkinson, his mother Aveon Atkinson-Reay, his stepfather Albert Reay, and his brothers Bruce Atkinson, and John Atkinson.

Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Thursday, December 7th from 4 – 8 p.m., where members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 308 will hold a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at the Durham Community Centre, 451 Saddler Street West, Durham on Friday at 1 p.m., with visitation prior to the service from 12 – 12:45 p.m. A casual come and go will be held following the funeral service from 2:30 – 5 p.m. Interment at Durham Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Durham Hospital Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
