Death Notice of Rosetta (Rose) nee Reich Benninger

Passed away peacefully, April 20, 2010, at Rockwood Terrace, Durham. Born March 21, 1916, in Formosa, Ontario, daughter of the late Francis Xavier (Frank) Reich and Josephine Hoffarth. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius (Corky) Benninger in February 1979, sons Jerome, John, Norbert and Francis and brothers and sisters Jerome, Joseph, Alexander, Michael, Alfred, Mary Anne Arnold, Margaret Cullition and Sylvia Ellig.

Rose loved life, loved her family and was loved by them. After her Mother's sudden death at the age of 36, Rose raised her ten brothers and sisters beginning at the young age of 17. She was "matriarch" to her children: Jim (Betty Lou), Anne Marie (Moe) Webster, Helen, Rosemary (Wilf) Ringler, Neil (Bonnie Kraus), George, Alan (Holly) and daughter-in-law Bertha Benninger. Grandma was cherished by her grandchildren: Jim, Paul & Bryan Benninger, Christa, John, George & Matthew Webster, Shelly Kinsella, Jannah Israel, Annette Kohler, Steve & Jordan Aljoe, Mark & Quinn Ringler, Michele, Michael, Shawn, Brooke, Shadran, Zachary, Cara, Kaitlyn, Aaron, Charlie, Hari Benninger and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Also survived by sisters Antoinette (Toni) Reich and Dorothy Meyer, as well as sister-in-law Hilaria (Pat) Smith and brother-in-law Francis Benninger and many cousins.

Rose was a dedicated homemaker, a devout Catholic and a 70+ year member of the CWL. She led an active spiritual life and held great belief in the far-reaching benefits of prayer. Rose was always "up" for family activities, time spent at her cottage at Sauble Beach, and reminiscing about family history. Gardening, pulling weeds, baking oatmeal cookies, reading the daily newspaper and helping her children with their laundry were favourite pastimes until she was in her 90's. Her door was always open to her family and friends. Much loved by all whom she touched, Rose will be missed. Her warm gentle smile, her dedication to her family, her strong faith and her humility are her legacy to us.

The Funeral Mass to celebrate Rose's life and faith will be held at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Durham on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to St. Peter's Hall, Durham, for refreshments and a time to visit with the family. The Committal Service will be held at Holy Family Cemetery, Hanover at 1:20 p.m.

In memory of Rosetta, donations to St. Peter Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. The family extends a thank you to the Rockwood Terrace professional and support staff and a special thank you to Lisa Sears (Fogal), fo
