Death Notice of Deanna Hopkins

Deanna Mildred Isabel Hopkins (nee Lang), passed away surrounded by her family at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre, Chesley on Thursday, May 8th, 2025 in her 85th year.  Beloved wife of the late Oren Hopkins.  Loving mother of Fred and Marian Hopkins, Cheryl and Ken Nelson, Susan Spielmacher, and Darryl and Kim Hopkins, all of West Grey.  Proud Granny of grand-kids Eric (Courtney), Chris (Kali), Leanne (Luke), Sarah (Tom), Nicole (Kevin), Blake (Kendra), Lance, Ally (Braeden), Cole (Breanna), Delaney, and great-grandkids Macie, Lilah, Beckham, Nash, Navy, Cooper, Riley, Miller, Hudson, Kylar, Keilee, Lelenn, Blayden, and Stetson.

Dear sister of Sandra Wilhelm.  Sister-in-law of Isabel Edge. Deanna will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Fred and Mildred Lang, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law David Aljoe, Len Wilhelm, Carman Hopkins, Mae and John MacLean, Dan Edge, Donelda and Bob Hastie, Noreen and Mel Barfoot, J.D. and Phyllis Hopkins, Robert and Marlene Hopkins, granddaughter Lindsay Nelson, parents-in-law Spence and Margaret Hopkins.

Deanna was born in Kirkland Lake.  At a young age, her family moved from the north to the Hanover area.  It was here that Deanna grew up and eventually met the love of her life.

Upon marrying Oren they took over the Hopkins family farm, where they raised beef cattle, pigs, chickens, and eventually had a herd of Holsteins and Brown Swiss.  As a farm wife, Deanna was passionate about her flowers and her garden.  While raising her four kids she canned, preserved and froze almost anything keeping the shelves and freezers full to feed her family and anyone else who came for a visit.  She loved anything that channeled her creativity - decorating cakes, sewing, ceramics, crafts, and quilting. Deanna was a proud member of the Centreville Women’s Institute, held every position with the Durham Agricultural Society and was a 4-H leader for many years. Deanna enjoyed judging exhibits at local fairs. Her love for fairs and agriculture was apparent with her attending many shows, watching her children and grandchildren showing their projects.

Friends may call at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Monday, May 12th  from 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Deanna's life will be held at the Durham Legion, Branch 308 on Tuesday, May 13th at 1:30 p.m. with visitation prior to the service from 12:30 - 1:15 p.m.  Interment at Durham Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy memorial donations to the Durham Hospital Foundation, Durham Agricultural Society or Grey County 4-H (cheques payable to Grey County 4-H Leaders Association) would be appreciated by the family.
