Death Notice of Heather Greener
Heather MacDowell Greener (nee Cohen), of Hanover and formerly of Montreal and Mississauga, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Hanover & District Hospital on Thursday, December 18th, 2025 on her 85th birthday. Predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Greener. Loving mother of Bonnie and her husband Bill Rowntree of Durham, ON, Ellen and her husband John Taylor of Campbellville, ON, and Heather and her husband Steve Turnbull of Knoxville, TN. Cherished grandmother to Sarah Yermus (Ryan), Kyle Skrypetz (Tamara), Matthew Skypeyz (Natalie), Adam Turnbull (Rachael), Emily Turnbull (Abbey), Ezra Miller (Mauricia) and the late Laurel Rowntree. Great-grandmother to Peyton, Nash, Thomas, Beau, Matteo, Callum, Caroline, Harper, Eric, Melanie and Oscar. Dear sister of Tom MacDowell, Murray MacDowell, and Janet Cohen. Loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Margaret Ryan, and her brothers George MacDowell, Charlie Chalmers and Jack Chalmers.
Heather worked many years for the Aluminium Company of Canada as well as Atomic Energy, Canada. She moved to Mississauga in 1979 from Montreal. After the passing of her husband, she relocated to Hanover, ON where she enjoyed many wonderful years. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing people who helped care for our mother during her time at the Hanover & District Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Abell and all the wonderful nursing staff who helped us through this very difficult time. Also, to all the support staff with HCSS. Special thanks to Jacky Little & PSW Marie Fong who were by our side every step of the way. Words cannot express how grateful we are. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. A private family ceremony will take place in Oakville, ON followed by a celebration of life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations on Heather’s behalf can be made to Chapman House in Owen Sound (cheques payable to Grey Bruce Hospice Inc) or Hanover & District Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
