Gary Lawrence

Howard Garland “Gary” Lawrence, of Durham, passed away at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Saturday, December 20th, 2025 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Alice (nee Roseborough). Predeceased by his daughter Judy Lawrence Breton and his son Todd Lawrence. Dear father-in-law of Jacques Breton and Jeannette Jones and her partner Tony Smith. Proud grandfather of Christian, Lauren and her husband Frank, Sarah and Benjamin. Brother-in-law of Don Schuknecht. Predeceased by his sister Isabelle Schuknecht. 

Gary was born and raised on the family farm on highway 4 just outside of Durham. In his younger days he was busy working on the farm as well as working full-time at Kroehler’s. On August 1, 1971, he along with a friend, purchased a local hardware store and became the proud owners of G and L Hardware until his semi-retirement. Following the sale of the hardware store Gary continued to work part-time, enjoying his time visiting with customers. Gary was athletic and participated for many years  on many hockey and baseball teams and he enjoyed the winter months curling.

Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Friday, December 26th from 2 – 4 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Gary’s life will be held at the Durham Legion on Saturday at 11 a.m., with visitation prior to the service from 10 – 10:45 a.m. Spring interment at Durham Cemetery.
