Death Notice of Doreen Weaver
Doreen Weaver formerly Hopkins (nee Ledingham), of Durham, passed away peacefully at Abbeyfield House in Durham on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 in her 97th year. Beloved wife of the late Royden Hopkins and the late James Weaver. Loving mother of Craig Hopkins, Susan and her husband Don Tremble, and the late Brad Hopkins. Dear mother-in-law of Helen Hopkins and her friend Don Shane. Cherished grandmother of Jonathan and Denica Hopkins, Jeff and Jessica Hopkins, Becky and Chad Weltz, Kevin and Ashton Tremble, Jay Tremble, Mark Hopkins, and Chris and Angela Hopkins. Proud great-grandmother of 14. Dear sister of Bill Ledingham, and Carol Barber. Sister-in-law of Glenna Monk, and Marilyn and Archie Lindsay. Predeceased by an infant son Steven, her sister Betty and the late Don Pust, her sister-in-law Kathleen Ledingham and her brother-in-law Barry Barber.
Doreen loved her time at Abbeyfield where she enjoyed her fellow residents. She had a real passion for playing cards, both at Abbeyfield and at the Legion. Her mind was sharp and her energy was contagious. She also found great comfort in her faith, rarely missing a Sunday at the Durham Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Sunday, May 3rd from 2 – 5 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Doreen’s life will be held at the Durham Presbyterian Church, 205 Lambton Street East, Durham on Monday at 11:30 a.m., with visitation prior to the service from 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Interment at Durham Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Durham Presbyterian Church (general fund) or Abbeyfield Houses Society of Durham would be appreciated by the family.
