Death Notice of Hermann Weller
1936 – 2026
Hermann died on June 16, 2026, at the age of 90, after a brave fight with cancer.
Born in 1936 in Gaildorf, Germany, Hermann grew up on the family farm in Neubronn and by the age of 15, worked with his father on the farm. He married Berta in 1959, and together they built a modern farm outside of Neubronn that was Hermann’s pride and joy.
In 1980, Hermann and Berta made the courageous decision to sell the farm in Germany and buy a farm in Ripley, Ontario and move to Canada with his entire family — including his 86-year-old mother. He did so without speaking English. He learned English through his friends and neighbours. In 1990 they built the home near Hanover where he lived out the rest of his years. There he enjoyed exploring the trails, cross country skiing, cutting wood in the bush and coffee in the cabin--watching wildlife and overseeing the land that he was so proud of. Hermann was well regarded as a kind, caring and respected gentleman who always saw the best in people. Their home was a common meeting place for friends and family, which were plentiful.
His determination alongside with his love for his family and friends will be remembered by his supporting and loving wife of 67 years, Berta; his children Elisabeth McConaghy (Al Woodward), Albrecht Weller (Maria Rojas), and Joerg Weller (Tracey Kirstine); his 4 grandchildren, Esther (Allan), Sara (Jon), Alex and Christine and 6 great-grandchildren Vinnie, Alyssa, Peter, Johnathan, Charlee and Jack.
Special thanks to Dr. Lauren Bouillon & Pastor Jenn Brown.
A memorial service will be held at Grace United Church, Hanover on Thursday, June 18th at 3:30 p.m., with visitation being held prior to the service from 2:30 – 3:15 p.m.
Charitable donations to the Hanover & District Hospital Foundation or Grace United Church in Hanover, are greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
