Death Notice of Francis Coppes

Franciscus Johannes Coppes, of Mount Forest and formerly of Durham and Rockwood, passed away at Stathcona Long Term Care, Mount Forest on Saturday, July 18th, 2026 in his 94th year. Dear father of David Coppes and his wife Nicole, and Nancy Coppes. Cherished grandfather of Nathan Brown, Nicholas Brown, Hannah Coppes, Nigel Coppes, Chloe Richards, and Rachel Murray. Great-grandfather of Neiko Daniel, Myah Brown, and Addison Brown. Dear brother of Peter Coppes and the late Gerarda Toonen.

Francis was an avid outdoorsmen and wildlife enthusiast. He especially enjoyed raising exotic waterfowl and game birds. He was president of the Canadian Ornamental Pheasant and Game Bird Association. Fishing, hunting and taxidermy were also favorite hobbies of his. In his later years, Francis found joy in painting. His close friends called him “Dutchy” and he was known to don wooden shoes from time to time.

Cremation will take place. A private graveside service will be held at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham.
