Art Hand

Arthur Hugh Hand, of Durham, passed away at the Grey Gables, Markdale on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of the late Sharon Hand (nee Montgomery). Loving father of Wendy Irwin, and Trevor Hand and his wife Bonnie. Cherished grandfather of Ryan, and Robin and his partner Ashley. Great-grandfather of Zoey, Aubrey, Ryatt, and Autumn. Dear brother of Diane McArthur, Donna and her husband Dennis Nelson, Heather and her husband Bill Wheeler, and Rick Hand. Predeceased by his brothers Edward and Alex Hand. 

Art was involved in the town of Durham for many years; he was a member of the BIA, he owned and operated “Midtown Variety” in the 70’s until 1982, he served as a Councillor and he was involved with starting the Sunday night hockey league.

A funeral service celebrating Art’s life will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Tuesday, September 29th at 1 p.m., with visitation prior to the service from 12 – 12:45 p.m. Interment at Durham Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
