Death Notice of Valerie Pfeffer
Valerie Lorraine Pfeffer of Hanover passed away peacefully at Chapman House in Owen Sound on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026 in her 59th year.
Val was born in Durham on October 19, 1967 to Carl “Bud” Pfeffer and the late Carole McClyment. In addition to her father, she is survived by her brother Wayne (Sherry) Pfeffer of Thornbury and nephew Jameson (Jordan) Pfeffer and great-nephew Tommy of Elmira. She will be sadly missed by her aunts, uncles and cousins of her extended family.
After graduating from Conestoga College, Val made a career as a broker at several insurance companies in Grey County, most recently at CMR Insurance. She loved working at CMR and looked forward to every day spent in the office with her new found family. The compassion and support that she received from her work family was priceless and meant the world to Val.
Val overcame many health challenges throughout her life. She fought bravely against cancer for over three years, determined to make every day count. She was eager for each new planned adventure, even when her health made it more challenging. Touring Quebec City, visiting Ripley’s aquarium with Tommy and his parents, concerts from The Sheepdogs to Hells Bells AC/DC Tribute (twice!), plays in Stratford and Toronto were some of the highlights. Day trips, dinners out, and gatherings with family and friends created many priceless memories.
Val had a wicked sense of humour and was great with a quick comeback line. She constantly had people laughing and was a larger than life presence at any gathering. She loved the beach and spent many long happy days at Sauble Beach with family and friends. Family weekends at Aunt Faye and Uncle Brian’s Four Winds at Picton were always treasured. Val was an avid Blue Jays fan and was able to attend a game at Rogers Centre in June. Even though they lost, it was a highlight of her summer.
Val was a generous soul who touched the lives of countless people. She was Auntie Val to many of the children of her friends and extended family. Indeed, she remained a kid at heart herself.
Many thanks to the staff at London Health Sciences Centre, Wingham Hospital Oncology department, CarePartners and Chapman House for the care and support provided to Val and her family.
Friends are invited to join Val’s family at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Sunday, October 18th from 1 - 4 p.m. to celebrate her life. A graveside service and interment will take place on Monday, October 19th at 11 a.m. at the Durham Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Chapman House (cheques payable Grey Bruce Hospice Foundation) or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
