Death Notice of Albert Reay

John Albert Reay passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Sunday, December 11th, 2016 in his 100th year. Beloved husband of the late Aveon Reay (Atkinson). He will be missed by his step-children Shirley Atkinson, Bruce Atkinson (Alice), John Atkinson (Tracy), George Atkinson (Carol), David Atkinson, Jim Atkinson (Margaret) and Ellen Russwurm (Ken). Cherished grandfather of 36 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Albert will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Reay and Atkinson families. Albert was born on July 23rd, 1917 to the late Harry and Christine Reay of Durham. Predeceased by his daughters-in-law Heather Atkinson and Marion Atkinson, great-granddaughter Aunna Lee Atkinson, sisters Jean (the late Art) Adlam, Sadie (the late Carl) Bell and Ada (the late Elton) Adlam. Albert has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for the past 29 years and has been an active member of the Knox United Church all of his life. He was also a member of the former Durham Rotary Club and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

A celebration of Albert's life will be held at Knox United Church, Durham on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m., with visitation prior to the service from 10 - 10:45 a.m.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to Knox United Church Memorial Fund, Durham and Community Health Care Foundation or Durham Legion Roof Fund would be appreciated by the family.
