Death Notice of Audrey Hunt

Audrey Isabel Hunt (nee McWilliam), of Durham, passed away at Rockwood Terrace, Durham on Friday, December 9th, 2022 in her 101st year. Beloved wife of the late Edward Hunt. Loving mother of John Hunt, and Ron Hunt and his wife Mary. Cherished grandmother of Edward Hunt, Grayson Hunt and his wife Carly Ostler, and Lindsay and her husband Jacob Lalonde. Great-grandmother of Cadence and August Hunt. Predeceased by her brothers Weston and Art McWilliam, and sisters Beatrice Hatton and Edna Pearson.

Audrey lived a full and active life. She was an accomplished athlete; she represented the area in ladies’ ice -hockey in the late 1930’s against the famed Preston Rockets, national champions.

Audrey was active in local curling and lawn bowling through her 40's, 50's and 60's.She was approaching 80 years of age when she last ice skated. She shared her interest in sports with raising her family, and enjoying arts and crafts. She embraced it all.  Sewing, knitting, rug-hooking blankets, wood working, copper craft sketching and oil painting. She loved music; she sang duets with her sister Edna as a youngster and with the Silver Threads Choir as a senior.

After Ed Hunt’s early death her focus turned to survival. The family grocery store was sold and she became an hourly employee for the new owner. She was free to travel, and distance was not a problem. She made trips across Canada and around the world to Asia, South America, Europe and Africa.

Her first 100 years were full and active. The last 10 months …not so good.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Sunday, December 18th from 2 – 4 p.m., with memories being shared at 3 p.m. Spring interment at Trinity Anglican Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Salvation Army or Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.
