Death Notice of Robert "Bob" Taylor

It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Irwin Taylor of Holland Centre, Ontario on Thursday, July 20th, 2023. Bob was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on September 10, 1939. Bob joined the military as a young teenager and after several years, he joined the Air Force to serve his country here and abroad.

Upon returning, he got married and started a business in Digby, Nova Scotia selling fresh seafood before changing careers into health care where he became an LPN, followed by being a paramedic in Ontario where he eventually retired.

He is survived by his stepdaughters Debbie and her husband Brian Hampton of Holland Centre, and Janet and her husband Ron Foster of Nova Scotia, his brothers Laurie Taylor and his wife Cathy, and Earl Taylor and his wife Sandra both of Nova Scotia. Remembered by his grandchildren Mike Challis, Anna Alcock, Beverly Challis, Carrie Andrews, Alana West, Leanne Andrews, and Gerry Andrews, as well as his many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Havelock and Bertha Taylor, his wife Evlyn (nee Van Tassell), his stepson Leonard Andrews, and his granddaughter Linda Hampton-Young.

Bob was an active member of his church and community, enjoying going to “Timmies” with the guys in the morning and many Sundays going to lunch with his church friends after mass. He will always be remembered for his sense of humour and a warm shoulder to cry on or just chat. In recent years he suffered some health problems and had to give up his home that he so loved, moving to a retirement home and later into Meaford Long Term Care where he passed away peacefully.

The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Gary and Sandy Cookman for all the help and support they gave Dad and the rest of the family through this trying time. Thank you to the care givers, doctors and nurses who have such compassion and dedication to the residents.

Visitation will be held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Wednesday, July 26th from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Durham on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Cremation to follow.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the War Amps or the Paramedic Association of Canada Benevolent Fund would be appreciated.
